We stopped for an afternoon Nov07 as part of round world trip. The hotel was choc abloc with daytrippers but we received an exeptional hospitable welcome, excellent meal, and the nice lady phoned a farmer a few miles on and organised fuel for our camper, as we were nearly out. Superb spot with great history and helpful characters.

Used to dine there in 1962 and drink in the Black and White Bar. All meals then were cooked on a coal range. In those days there was a picture theatre, store, garage and post office. The beer for the hotel used to arrive by rail in kegs from New Plymouth. Can't forget the three legged dog that used to sleep in the middle of the main street.
