WHANGAMOMONA
Get off the beaten track.
Set out from the Whangamomona Hotel and head into the backcountry on a rugged journey through some of the region’s most remote country.
The tour follows an unmaintained 17–18 kilometre route from the hotel to the historic Bridge to Somewhere, winding through farmland, native bush and the kind of country you simply don’t get to see from the road.
Designed for small groups of up to four people, it’s rugged, remote and a little bit wild.
THE TOUR
Head out from Whangamomona with Tony behind the wheel for a guided trip into the surrounding hill country.
Travelling by side-by-side ATV, you’ll leave the main road behind and make your way through working farmland and rugged back-country tracks, stopping along the way to take in the views, hear a few local stories and get a different perspective on life in the Republic.
The journey is as much about slowing down as it is getting off the beaten track. Add a picnic prepared by the Whangamomona Hotel and stop somewhere along the way to enjoy it with a pretty hard-to-beat backdrop.
Choose from a simple cheese board, fresh sandwiches or a more substantial hot lunch, with wine and other drinks available to add to your package.

What to expect
No driving and no previous ATV experience required — just climb aboard and enjoy the ride.
Tony takes care of the driving while you take in the scenery, stories and character of the Whangamomona back country.
Expect working farmland, rugged tracks, changing weather and plenty of opportunities to stop and take it all in.
